Vokabulo

Quizlet alternative for language learners

Vokabulo vs Quizlet: your words, filled in for you.

Quizlet is a flashcard tool for every subject, with millions of sets made by other learners. Vokabulo is made only for vocabulary: you save a word from your own life, and the translation, an example sentence and usage notes are added for you.

  • you study on Android or the web as well as on iPhone
  • you want Learn and Test modes that turn cards into quizzes

Choose Vokabulo if

What really differs

Four differences, one by one.

Each one in the same order: how Quizlet does it, how Vokabulo does it.

01The words

Quizlet

Quizlet’s strength is its library: more than 700 million sets, made by learners for their own classes and textbooks.

Vokabulo

Vokabulo starts from your own life instead: the words from your meetings, your landlord’s emails and the series you watch. No shared set has those.

02The effort

Quizlet

A language card means entering the word and its meaning yourself, or turning your notes into cards with AI.

Vokabulo

You type or say one word and the card is ready: translation, a natural example sentence and, for nouns, the article. Every field stays editable.

03The tone

Quizlet

A card shows what its author put on it. Whether a word is slang or formal is up to the set.

Vokabulo

Usage labels flag words that are informal, slang, formal or business, so you know whether to say it to a friend or put it in an email.

04The focus

Quizlet

Quizlet serves every subject, from biology to history, which makes it a strong all-round study tool.

Vokabulo

Vokabulo does one thing: vocabulary, in more than 100 languages, with features like usage labels and Scenes that only make sense for languages.

Price

What each one costs.

Quizlet

Quizlet is free with ads. Quizlet Plus removes the ads and adds personalised study modes. In the US it costs $44.99 a year or $9.99 a month.

Vokabulo

Vokabulo is free to start. A free account is a full app, with limits on six features such as AI translations and Scenes. Vokabulo Pro removes the limits for $69.99 a year in the US, which works out at $5.83 a month.

If you need flashcards for several subjects, Quizlet covers more ground for less. Vokabulo is for when vocabulary is the subject. Prices vary by country.

Using both

Many learners keep both.

Keep Quizlet for exams and school subjects, and use Vokabulo for the words of your own life.

Have vocabulary in a Quizlet set you made? Export it as text, save it as a CSV file with a header row naming the two languages, and import it into Vokabulo; importing your own lists is part of Pro. How to import a word list

Start with the next word you look up.

Vokabulo is free to start, on iPhone and iPad.
