How do I add the Vokabulo widget to my Home Screen?
Touch and hold an empty spot on the Home Screen until the icons jiggle, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and scroll down to Vokabulo. In Settings – Widget you choose which language it shows.
Vokabulo on your Home Screen, so a word finds you before you open anything.
A widget is a small tile that sits among your app icons and shows something at a glance, without you opening the app. The Vokabulo widget shows one of your words together with your current streak, and the word changes through the day.
Tap on the word and a study session in Vokabulo opens.
Tap on the Vokabulo logo, and the app opens on the Home Screen.
What the colour means
The widget carries your streak status in its colour.
- Orange means the streak is waiting for you right now: this is a streak language, today is one of your study days, and you have not checked in yet.
- White, or dark grey in dark mode, means it is not waiting. Usually that is because you have secured the day. You also see it on a weekday you have switched off, during a pause, on a language that does not count toward your streak, and when you are signed out.
It turns orange by itself when the next study day begins. You do not have to open the app.
Adding it happens in iOS, not in Vokabulo:
- Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen until the icons start to jiggle.
- Tap Edit at the top, then Add Widget.
- Scroll down to Vokabulo, or type its name into Search Widgets at the top of the list.
- Choose a size and add it, drag it where you want it, then tap Done.
There are four sizes: small, medium, large, and on iPad an extra large one. They all show the same thing, with more room for the sentence as they grow. Long words are hyphenated using the rules of the language they belong to, so a German compound stays readable instead of shrinking away.
Settings – Widget
Three things live there:
- Language: which pair the widget shows, if you have more than one.
- Display:
Practice DirectionandWhat to show, exactly as on the Study page. The widget can lead with the foreign word while your sessions lead with your own, if that is what you want. - Lock Screen: see the next section.
