Can I change what the flashcard shows?

Short answer

Yes, in Settings. Choose which language leads, native first for active recall or target first for recognition, and whether the card shows the full sentence or the word alone.

You can customize the flashcard experience in Settings:

  • Native First: Good for practicing recall (active vocabulary).
  • Target First: Good for practicing recognition (passive vocabulary).
  • Word vs. Context: Choose whether to see just the word or the full sentence.

There is a third direction. Random mode shuffles which side leads from card to card, so you cannot coast on knowing where the answer sits.

Two more things ride along on the card. For languages that give nouns a gender, a small article pill sits beside the word. And the word’s own tags are printed in small grey text under the card, with the system tags deliberately left out.
