How do the levels work?

Short answer

Every word climbs a ladder from Level 0 to Level 5. Get it right and it waits longer before returning, from about ten minutes up to a month. Get it wrong and it goes back to the start.

Every word in your collection climbs a ladder of levels. Each time you get a word right, it moves up a level and waits longer before it’s due again:

  • Level 0: due again in about 10 minutes

  • Level 1: 1 day

  • Level 2: 3 days

  • Level 3: 7 days

  • Level 4: 14 days

  • Level 5, Mastered: about 1 month

  • Got it right?: The word levels up and goes on a longer vacation before it’s due again.

  • Struggled?: The word drops two levels and comes back sooner. From Level 1 or 2 that means straight back to the bottom and another look within minutes; from higher up you keep some of the ground you gained.

This dynamic system keeps your study load sustainable as your vocabulary grows: easy words drift far into the future, while tricky words keep circling back until they stick.

The intervals decide when a word is due. To keep your sessions from running dry, Vokabulo may occasionally show a word a little before it’s technically due, prioritizing the words closest to needing review.

Getting one of those early cards right leaves its level and its due date untouched, so an early session can never rush a word up the ladder.
