Nothing is lost. The chip under the field switches which language you are typing in, without leaving the screen. The pair the word lands in is the flag, and you can still change it in the New word sheet before you save.

That chip changes the language you are typing in, not the pair the word lands in. The pair is the one showing in the flag, and you can still change it in the New word sheet before you save. A word that already landed in the wrong pair can be added to the right one by long-pressing it on its card, see Edit words, and then deleted.
