How do I search my collection, and what happens with duplicates?

Searching your collection

Tap the magnifier at the top right to search. The search row takes the place of the filter row, its placeholder counts the matches as you type, and it hunts through words, context fields and even tags.

Cancel closes it and clears the query, so the results are not kept.

Search handles umlauts and accents for you. Type "Madchen" and it finds "Mädchen".

While you are adding a word

Vokabulo looks through your collection while it builds the new card, and shows up to three words that could be the same one, right under the preview. If one of them is an exact match the heading reads You already have this word; otherwise it counts them, as 2 similar words in your list.

Each row shows the existing word, its translation and its example sentence. Tap one to open it, and you can improve the entry you already have instead of keeping two.

It only suggests. Save stays available throughout, because sometimes two entries really are worth having. Matching ignores accents, capitals and a leading article, so el borrador finds borrador. It deliberately does not match a word merely contained in another, which is why laufen and gelaufen are left alone.

Cleaning up afterwards

Vokabulo also keeps an eye out for duplicates that are already in your list, and there is nothing to switch on. An orange chip with a count appears at the end of the toolbar row whenever duplicates exist. Tap it to see them grouped together.
